Scott Snyder's Wytches
So this week I read Scott Snyder’s Wytches. The story is
about a small town and a girl that was bullied by another girl that tried to
force her to strip in the middle of the woods. And randomly eaten and absorbed
by trees after that Sailor was suspected of having to something with the girls disappearance..
And the twist that happens at the end of the story. Where the town is in league
with these grotesque witches that demand a pledge of some sort for the town o
live in peace. Sailor is the main protagonist and the main focus of these
witches. Due to her own mother offering the girl that everyone suspects she
killed as a offering. Well after reading this I was pleasantly surprised I was
not shown the pointy nosed hag or the sexy witch that is in a special club. I
was shown monsters witches that no one understood. The reason of their existence
is lead to them losing their minds and giving in to them offering up anyone so
they may live in peace or received their numbers boons that they offer their
followers. Scott Snyder was definitely offering a different view since the
first opening is someone trapped in a tree. This whole comic is dark and terrifying
from a boy not helping his mother escape from a tree saying pledged is pledged.
Definitely felt like it was opening more like a movie in terms of offering
relationship connections between characters. All in all this story definitely
bled gothic horror and was more true to Lovecraftian horror than anything else.
Which made it unique reading experience.
